Students living in low-risk areas in the Haizhu district of Guangzhou, Guangdong province, began returning to school on Monday.
Earlier, local educational authorities suspended classes or turned to online instruction for all students in Haizhu, after reports of dozens of COVID-19 cases in the district since Tuesday.
Two more locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Haizhu on Sunday, according to the local health authority. An investigation indicated that all infections involved in the new round of pandemic in the district are in the same transmission chain.
In another development, Shenzhen, Guangdong, has adopted classified COVID-19 control measures since Monday as the number of new cases detected in communities declined.
The temporary control measures for prevention and control will be lifted if there are no new cases found in communities and subdistricts for three consecutive days from Friday to Sunday.
All buses and subway services will be suspended in the subdistricts with temporary control measures in force, according to the local health authority.
The city reported 50 new locally transmitted confirmed cases and 21 asymptomatic carriers on Sunday, the authorities said.
"The current situation of epidemic prevention and control in the city is still complicated, as the number of new daily cases remains at a high level and the risk of transmission in communities still exists," said Lin Hancheng, a senior official with the Shenzhen health commission.
Authorities have carried out emergency measures, including two rounds of nucleic acid testing, in the city's six districts since Saturday, as well as classified control measures in risk areas, which helped reduce the mobility of the population, Lin said.
"The epidemic prevention and control situation is generally controlled, as the number of new cases detected in communities has decreased significantly," he said.
