Many of these adjectives are usually used with one particular noun or adjective after them: 'blithering idiot', 'blundering idiot', 'crashing bore', 'raving lunatic', 'thundering nuisance', 'freezing cold', 'scalding hot', 'piddling little', 'thumping great', 'whopping great'.
