W:A lot of doctors can tell what's wrong with you by sleeping, so can you -- by smelling?
M:Oh, absolutely. This actually goes back to the day of ... For example, you can walk into a room or get close to a patient who had diabetes that is not well controlled. There is a kind of sweetish smell.
W:So you mean often you can walk into a room and tell if a patient has kidney failure or liver failure?
M:Precisely. And now there is a machine that can do that too.
W:Fascinating.
M:Actually, there have been these machines in the past, but they meant just enormous.
W:Are they used in therapy?
M:They are ... These machines are impossible to use clinically, because, you know, it a whole room for the equipments ..., but the newly-invented ones are very small and ...
W:And then what do the new ones use?
M:New laser technology.
W:Is it now available given the size of the machine?
M:It couldn't be better. Unlike the previous, this is the size of microwave.
W:And I think it isn't far-off, right.
M:Well, it's very much in the experimental stage. But interesting. However, unlike any of these things which are produced by commercial company, this work is being done by the federal government.
